    Annie's Landing Playground - Ellenbrook

Tucked away in the Annie's Landing section of Ellenbrook Estate this lovely nature playground is set in natural bush. Access is off Banrock Drive and parking is available off Inglis Avenue. You can plan a longer play here as there are toilets, barbecues, picnic benches and a drink fountain. This playspace has been designed for different age groups through the use of “play pockets”, connected by meandering pathways. The natural bush surrounds enhance the earthy tones of the p

    Local Hidden Gems: Joondalup

Joondalup has a green belt running through the centre of the suburb which allows for a short but pretty walk. As the parks are local there are no parking bays but we managed to park on the kerb in Aswan View at the Water Tower Park. You could also park at nearby Candlewood shops. Water Tower Park has a small playground and a viewing platform (which looks as though it is an evening gathering place for teens so just give it a quick once over if the kids are playing here). As

Booyeembara Park - White Gum Valley

After exploring South Fremantle in search of urban street art there were two more locations on South Street in White Gum Valley so we decided to explore Booyeembara Park and then wander through White Gum Valley to South Street to look for the art. Booyeembara Park was lovely but we equally enjoyed wandering through the streets of White Gum Valley which was full of whimsical surprises including Valley Park and the White Gum Valley Community Orchard. We entered Booyeembara Pa

    Kitty's Gorge Trail - Serpentine

Kitty's Gorge Trail is an 8 km trail that follows Gooralong Brook and the Serpentine River. As a there and back trail it will be 16km return, unless you car shuffle and park at either end. We started from Jarrahdale Cemetery, where there is limited parking, but you can also start from the carpark at the Falls in Serpentine National Park (entry fees apply). Walking from Jarrahdale Cemetery has the advantage of following the brook downstream so the trail descends gradually.

    Baldwins Bluff and Serpentine Falls

Baldwins Bluff is a challenging 6 km loop trail starting at Serpentine Falls then heading steeply uphill before levelling out on the ridge and offering stunning views across the valley to Serpentine Falls on one side and across the Swan Coastal Plain on the other side. We completed this trail at the end of the Kitty's Gorge one way hike from Jarrahdale to Serpentine Falls. There is a turn off from the Kitty's Gorge Trail before you get to the Falls. The trail starts with an

Christmas Tree Creek Trail - John Forrest National Park

This challenging 11 km trail offers city views, creek crossings, waterfalls and a steep 2km incline as it winds through a variety of scenery with an abundance of wildflowers in late winter and early spring, including many varieties of orchid. Christmas Tree Creek Trail follows the same trail as the longer 16 km Eagle View Trail but diverts through the middle of the park allowing a shorter walk. Although many trails have wildflowers this walk truly immerses you in them with i

    Queens Gardens East Perth

Queens Gardens is a beautiful park tucked away in East Perth near the WACA and Gloucester Park. There is plenty of parking available in the area on a weekend (unless a major event is underway). We took advantage of free parking offered during the first few months of Covid 19. The site was originally used for horse racing before becoming a clay mine which produced bricks between 1860 and 1890. These bricks were used in many of Perth's historic buildings of that era. In 1894

Wadjup - Bodkin Park and the Waterford Foreshore Trail

Wadjup, the Noongar name for the Canning flats, refers to the area downriver from Riverton Bridge and includes the Clontarf, Waterford and Salter Point foreshores which cover 34 hectares of land, providing habitat for over 74 species of birds,12 reptile and 6 amphibian species. We had already explored Wadjup from the Redmond Reserve Stairs upriver past the Salter Point Lagoon to Sandon Park. Sandon Park was again our starting point as it has parking, off Eldersfield Road, toi

    John Forrest National Park

John Forrest National Park was established in 1900 and has been a popular picnic and walking spot ever since. There are large picnic areas with lots of tables scattered around the main area near the car parks. There are plenty of barbecues available and there are bigger gazebos for large groups. There is a centrally located toilet block opposite the Ranger's office. There is also a tavern there. The picnic benches are in heavy demand from about 11am onwards - before th

Glen Brook Dam Trail - John Forrest National Park

It was a sunny winter's day after a wet week so we headed to John Forrest National Park to get out into some fresh air, sunshine and nature. On entering the National Park you will need to stop at the station to pay your $15 per car entry fee. Sometimes a ranger will be at the booth but if it is not manned the machine will accept credit cards only. If you have already got a National Parks Pass you can drive straight through but remember to display your pass. There was plent
