Buckingham House - Wanneroo

Buckingham House is located in the original Wanneroo townsite at 10 Neville Drive. The house, built between 1880 and 1890, is one of only a few remaining examples of a typical family cottage.

The house was home to the Buckingham Family: Mum, Dad and seven children! John Buckingham was a grazier and the property was vital to the northern stock routes.

John Buckingham donated five acres of his land for a new school and the site also includes the Old Wanneroo School House.

Buckingham House has passed through the hands of many Wanneroo families and as well as growing crops it has been a dairy farm and market gardens.

Buckingham House is frequently visited by school groups to learn the history of the local area. During Heritage week in May and again in October each year it holds an open day with lots of hands on activities for the kids to do with the help of volunteers in period costume. The kids can bake scones, churn butter, scrub clothes on the washboards and dry them with the wringer. The open day is very interesting and definitely worth a visit.

At the rear of the old school house there is a small playground.
