Canning Bridge Mural Art Trail - Wagoorjup
Canning Bridge spans Djarlgarro, the Canning River, on land the Noongar people called Wagoorjup. This area is of great spiritual significance as it is the place of the Waugal - the giant Rainbow Serpent: the place of creation, the place of life. This new trail explores numerous murals in Applecross and Mt Pleasant along the Canning Highway west of Canning Bridge. The City of Melville's new guide, Murals of Canning Bridge was launched in August 2025 and guides you around th

Boorloo Bridge and Heirisson Island (Matagarup) - Perth
Boorloo Bridge opened on December 22, 2024 providing a stunning access way for pedestrians and cyclists from East Perth to Victoria Park via Heirisson Island and parallel to the Causeway Bridge. Boorloo is the Noongar name for Perth and the design of the bridge recognises Whadjuk Noongar culture and the heritage significance of the area. The bridge spans the Swan River (Derbarl Yerrigan) at Heirisson Island (Matagarup - meaning “a place where the river is only leg deep,”).

The University of Western Australia, established by an Act of Parliament in 1911, was the first free university in the British Commonwealth of Nations. In 1913 UWA was established in Irwin Street in corrugated iron and weatherboard buildings known as ‘Tin Pot Alley’ . The university moved in stages to its present location on Matilda Bay in Crawley. Its first building opened in 1925 with other buildings following and Winthrop Hall, Hackett Hall and the Administration buildin

Point Heathcote - Goolugatup - with Heathcote Pirate Playground - Applecross
We walked this as an extension of our Deepwater Point Two Bridges walk and crossed under Canning Bridge to the northern side of Canning Highway. Parking in this area is somewhat limited so I would recommend this as either a loop walk or a there and back walk starting from Jeff Joseph or Heathcote Reserves, If you are doing a loop it is more scenic walking from the Raffles Hotel towards Point Heathcote as you have city views. As you walk past the Raffles Hotel there are s

McCallum Park to Lake Hurlingham - South Perth
McCallum Park is a large open space alongside the Swan River in Victoria Park which is often used as a venue for large scale events. We decided to walk along the river on this section to complete the river foreshore walk from Millers Pool in South Perth to the new Boorloo Bridge. The stunning new Boorloo Bridge has opened at the eastern end of McCallum Park offering a 1km detour across to Point Fraser with plenty to explore along the way, including the kangaroos on Heiriss

East Fremantle Heritage and Art
Having walked several Heritage Trails around Fremantle we decided to follow the one in East Fremantle and explore some murals and public art along the way. Heritage trails are a great starting point to explore an area - sometimes the heritage can leave a little to be desired as buildings no longer exist but mostly we discover unexpected delights along the way and East Fremantle was no exception. East Fremantle also stands out as all the buildings on the Heritage Trail are st

Point Walter Sand Spit - Djoondalup
We've spent time at beautiful Point Walter on a number of occasions and always find something different to keep us busy. The first visit was on a magnificent Autumn Day to have a go at Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP). The cool water was an added incentive not to fall off! There are a few companies that hire SUP boards here but it is also an easy place to unload if you have your own. As beginners we were advised to paddle to the right of the jetty but discovered there was qu
