Boorloo Bridge opened on December 22, 2024 providing a stunning access way for pedestrians and cyclists from East Perth to Victoria Park via Heirisson Island and parallel to the Causeway Bridge. Boorloo is the Noongar name for Perth and the design of the bridge recognises Whadjuk Noongar culture and the heritage significance of the area.  The bridge spans the Swan River (Derbarl Yerrigan) at Heirisson Island (Matagarup - meaning “a place where the river is only leg deep,”).

We walked this as an extension of our Deepwater Point Two Bridges walk and crossed under Canning Bridge to the northern side of Canning Highway. Interpretive signage marking the Alkimos Beach Interpretive Trail was revealed for Reconciliation Week so we set off to explore this network of trails through the Alkimos Beach development. Family Loop Trail Turn onto Graceful Boulevard off Marmion Avenue until you get to Bristlebird Circuit. The map has the trail starting at number 1, Bryde Park, but as there was no street parking we headed a hundred meters down the road and found street parking at number 2, Bristlebird P
