Boorloo Bridge and Heirisson Island (Matagarup) - Perth
Boorloo Bridge opened on December 22, 2024 providing a stunning access way for pedestrians and cyclists from East Perth to Victoria Park via Heirisson Island and parallel to the Causeway Bridge. Boorloo is the Noongar name for Perth and the design of the bridge recognises Whadjuk Noongar culture and the heritage significance of the area. The bridge spans the Swan River (Derbarl Yerrigan) at Heirisson Island (Matagarup - meaning “a place where the river is only leg deep,”). M

McCallum Park to Lake Hurlingham - South Perth
McCallum Park is a large open space alongside the Swan River in Victoria Park which is often used as a venue for large scale events. We decided to walk along the river on this section to complete the river foreshore walk from Millers Pool in South Perth to the new Boorloo Bridge. The stunning new Boorloo Bridge has opened at the eastern end of McCallum Park offering a 1km detour across to Point Fraser with plenty to explore along the way, including the kangaroos on Heirisson

G O Edwards Park - Burswood
Located on the southern side of Great Eastern Highway in Burswood this park is only a short walk from the top end of Victoria Park. It is quite a large park with lovely grassed areas and a central lake complete with bird hide. Considering how close it is to such a busy highway it is remarkably peaceful! There are paths around the park with scattered natural play areas and exercise equipment, some located next to the climbing wall so the kids are busy while you do your reps

Street Art - Victoria Park
Exploring the street art in Victoria Park proved to be too much for just one visit/blog so I have posted in two parts: Victoria Park and East Victoria Park. Learning from the East Victoria Park walk this time we planned to start at the midpoint which proved to be a great idea as the Victoria Park Shopping Centre carpark on Duncan Street was a perfect start point. Be aware that the above ground parking is limited to 1 hour so we parked in the undercover car park which has a 3

Queens Gardens and The Pavilion @ the WACA - East Perth
Queens Gardens is a beautiful park tucked away in East Perth near the WACA and Gloucester Park. There is plenty of paid parking available in the area on a weekend (unless a major event is underway) or you can use the free CAT buses. The site was originally used for horse racing before becoming a clay mine which produced bricks between 1860 and 1890. These bricks were used in many of Perth's historic buildings of that era. In 1894 the brick kilns were removed and the old cla

Point Fraser (Boodjargabbeelup) and Lake Vasto
Point Fraser (Boodjargabbeelup) We've walked the loop around the bridges a number of times but have never really stopped to take in the beauty of Lake Vasto, Ozone Reserve and Point Fraser. Point Fraser Foreshore Reserve can be accessed off Riverside Drive. Paid parking is available here and services both the recreational side of Point Fraser as well as the waterfront dining and entertainment at On the Point. You can also park here to explore Ozone Reserve and Lake Vasto on
