Boorloo Bridge and Heirisson Island (Matagarup) - Perth
Boorloo Bridge opened on December 22, 2024 providing a stunning access way for pedestrians and cyclists from East Perth to Victoria Park via Heirisson Island and parallel to the Causeway Bridge. Boorloo is the Noongar name for Perth and the design of the bridge recognises Whadjuk Noongar culture and the heritage significance of the area. The bridge spans the Swan River (Derbarl Yerrigan) at Heirisson Island (Matagarup - meaning “a place where the river is only leg deep,”).

McCallum Park to Lake Hurlingham - South Perth
McCallum Park is a large open space alongside the Swan River in Victoria Park which is often used as a venue for large scale events. We decided to walk along the river on this section to complete the river foreshore walk from Millers Pool in South Perth to the new Boorloo Bridge. The stunning new Boorloo Bridge has opened at the eastern end of McCallum Park offering a 1km detour across to Point Fraser with plenty to explore along the way, including the kangaroos on Heiriss

Millers Pool to Mindeerup Piazza - South Perth
Miller's Pool (Goorgygoogup) is a lovely restored wetlands located almost under the Narrows Bridge at Point Belches. It is only a small area but has great views across the river to the city and down river to the South Perth Foreshore. This is a popular area for cyclists riding along the foreshore and crossing the road to access the Narrows Bridge so be alert. If you head under the bridge you will find a network or paths through the landscaped gardens of Mill Point Reserve (

South Perth Lakes and Djirda Miya
Are you aware of the wetland lakes in South Perth? Set back from the foreshore cycle and walking paths in Clydesdale Reserve these beautiful lakes often go unnoticed. There are no paved paths around the lakes but the lovely grass is green and relatively flat so should be accessible for prams and wheelchairs. There are two boardwalks so you can either walk all the way around the outside of the lakes or loop around in a figure 8 to take in the boardwalks. The walk around s

East Fremantle Riverside Walk with the Niergarup Track - Melville Water Riverpark Trail
Some time ago we walked the Jenna Biddi Yorga along Blackwall Reach from Point Walter to Bicton Baths continuing on along the river to Wauhop Road at Jerrat Drive. We finally managed to complete this section of the river by walking from The Left Bank Cafe on Riverside Road in East Fremantle back to Wauhop Road. We parked at The Left Bank on Riverside Road and completed two loops from there. The Left Bank is the old Boat Builder's House and features on the East Fremantle
