Yanchep (Yandjip) National Park - Yanchep
The word Yanchep is derived from Yandjip or Yanget which is the aboriginal name for the local bulrush reed found fringing the lakes. Nyanyi-Yandjip (Yanchep National Park) is named after the reeds and the lake which were thought to resemble the hairy mane of the dreamtime creature the Waugul . This area is culturally significant to the Noongar people and has been inhabited and used as a hunting ground for thousands of years prior to European settlement. In 1834 the first Eur

Yanchep Rose Trail - Yanchep (Yandjip) National Park
While completing the Ghost House Trail we crossed this trail and decided to hike it during Spring but time got away and that didn't happen so here we are, a year later in July. We set off to hike this14km trail hoping we would spot the Yanchep Rose (Diplolaena angustiflora) for which the trail is named as it flowers from Winter to Spring. It had been raining but cleared up beautifully for our hike. We went to sign in at the Visitor Centre as this is an extended hike and sign

Ghost House Trail - Yanchep (Yandjip) National Park
This is another trail which has been on my list to revisit for some time! We originally walked this trail some years ago by accident after missing the turn off while walking the Caves Trail. At that time I wasn't overly impressed with the trail but that may have been our state of mind as it seemed never ending considering we were supposed to be hiking a 4km trail! This time we headed off in July and walked in a clockwise direction, as recommended, and I now understand why i

Woodlands Walk Trail - Yanchep (Yandjip) National Park
Yanchep National Park is always beautiful at any time of the year. In early winter there were still a few splashes of autumn colour to offset the greens leading down to the lake. The Woodlands Walk Trail and many other trails all start behind the Yanchep Tea Rooms. The shared path for the trails crosses the road and then, after a short walk, the Woodlands Trail splits from the other trails as you take the path to the right. If you get to the camping ground you have gone t

Yaberoo Budjara Heritage Trail - Lacey Road to Loch McNess, Yanchep National Park
This beautiful walk takes about 2 hours at a good pace and is just over 5km one way. The City of Wanneroo organises yearly guided walks for this section of the Yaberoo Budjara Heritage Trail led by local Noongar, Derek Nannup. The advantage of a guided tour is that after meeting at Wangi Mia in Yanchep National Park you are transported by mini bus to Lacey Road to start the trail. Otherwise you would need two cars to access both ends of the trail - or walk there and back

Wetlands Trail - Yanchep (Yandjip) National Park
The Wetlands Walk Trail is a 2.6km loop trail around Loch McNess in Yanchep National Park. If you walk down the path from the McNess House Visitor's Centre to the lake you can turn right or left and follow the edge of the lake to find the trail. This trail is represented by a bulrushes icon on the trail markers. We did the trail in a clockwise direction heading past the old boat and raindrop sculpture in the picnic area. If you do this as a regular walk it would be interest
