Street Art - Victoria Park
Exploring the street art in Victoria Park proved to be too much for just one visit/blog so I have posted in two parts: Victoria Park and East Victoria Park. Learning from the East Victoria Park walk this time we planned to start at the midpoint which proved to be a great idea as the Victoria Park Shopping Centre carpark on Duncan Street was a perfect start point. Be aware that the above ground parking is limited to 1 hour so we parked in the undercover car park which has a 3

Street Art - East Victoria Park with Baillie Hill Precinct
With the weather finally cooling down and an overcast day we decided to head to Victoria Park to find all the street art as this has been on our list for quite a while. Our research showed that there were lots of locations spread along Albany Highway into East Victoria Park so we decided to divide the walk into two sections and see how we went. For the Victoria Park Street Art go to: https://www.outandaboutfnc.com/post/street-art-victoria-park. There is a map of the artwork

Northbridge Street Art
This blog is a combination of a planned and an unplanned walk to explore the street art in Northbridge. For our first walk (the orange trail on maps below) we explored the centre of Northbridge. We started at Chinatown where there are numerous artworks within the restaurant precinct. The artist I am the Wong chose a Chinese expression 'If people are of one heart, even the yellow earth can become gold' for his mural. This expression underpins the idea that when people stick

The New Art City Walking Tour - Perth
I've previously blogged the Art City Walking Trail in Perth City but as I did so I realised that there was a new updated version which gave me an excuse to hit the streets of the CBD again to find all the new artworks on this trail. The new trail starts at Elizabeth Quay, winds it's way up to Kings Square and finishes at the Perth Concert Hall and will take up to 2 hours on foot or you can also use public transport options along the way. It may also take you all day if you g

Midland Heritage and Art with Weeip Park
Weeip Park opened in September in the New Junction open space development in Midland's CBD. It is a fabulous play space with a grassed kickabout area, a youth zone, a playground with nature elements, a path for cycling and a toilet. Weeip was a traditional clan leader of the Noongar Whadjuk Boora Clan. His territory covered South Guildford, the Swan River, Ellen Brook and into the hills. In August 1934 Weeip negotiated a truce with Governor Stirling to improve relations wit

Hidden Gems - Willagee Wanderings
Willagee is a lovely suburb with some wonderful playgrounds and artworks. We started by finding Webber Reserve with it's small nature playground tucked away on the north eastern corner of Webber Reserve. Designed and built by the community for local children this is a lovely play space situated at the edge of playing fields and next to a traditional playground with a BBQ, a picnic bench and a basketball half court. Parking is on the verge and there are no toilets. This pla

Art and About in Perth
Perth really has so much to offer in the way of formal and informal street art and public art installations. My first exposure was walking through Subiaco on a Subi on Sunday guided walk which opened my eyes to what was on offer and sent me on a search for more. I have used Streets of Perth's interactive map and picture references to plan many walks. They provide a wonderful resource if you are hunting down urban art in Perth and we have used them to create and blog other urb

North Fremantle Art, Architecture and Heritage.
While walking the Rocky Bay Walk some time ago we noticed some very old and weathered signage for a Heritage Trail and vowed to come back to explore in more depth one day. The heritage trail mapped on the signs differs from the online version, the Rocky Bay Heritage Trail which is made up of two trails - the 2km North Fremantle Historic Town Walk and the Rocky Bay Cliff Walk. To make it more interesting (from experience we have found that often the landmarks no longer exist

Inglewood Urban Art
Carrying on from the Mt Lawley Urban Art Trail I still wanted to get to Inglewood to explore the street art so when something popped up on facebook about the Jacaranda trees being in bloom in Inglewood I had the excuse I needed. We started from Brear Park and walked down Central Avenue, passing the Melkite Church, (previously Church of All Hallows) where we were invited in for the service later that morning. Past Betty and Dave's Cafe then heading west along Beaufort Street

Highgate Art and Hyde Park - Perth
Highgate backs on to Mt Lawley so provides a seamless extension to the Mt Lawley Urban Art Trail. The Cloud 9 Smoke Shop provides a landmark for where Mt Lawley becomes Highgate where Harold Street intersects with Beaufort Street. The Art Trail winds it's way down Beaufort Street for about half a km to Bulwer Street. Cloud 9 at 539 Beaufort Street has artworks by Brad Loafer. From here we crossed Beaufort Street and walked down the southern side past The Queens Hotel. We mis

Mt Lawley Urban Art
When urban art started to become a "thing" in Perth I did quite a bit of research about where the various artworks could be found. My main go to for this was the Streets of Perth interactive map and facebook page and over time I managed to draw a mud map to follow. My mud map sat around for a while as I was busy exploring other trails around Perth but one day it just fitted into my plans for the day. Usually we walk early in the morning but this time we set off in the lat

Mundaring (Minderinjy) Heritage, Art and Sculpture Trail
We had a little bit of spare time after hiking around the Mundaring area so decided to explore Mundaring's 2km Heritage Trail. We called in to the Information Centre and they supplied us with a photo copy of the trail map to follow. You can also access an interactive map online here. We started the trail at the Information Centre as we had picked up the map there. The Heritage Trail had some lovely buildings but many have been replaced. When we got to Sculpture Park and d

Scarborough Trigg Heritage Trail
This Heritage Trail consists of three different loops around the Scarborough and Trigg Coastline, extending into Trigg Bushland. Each loop can be walked in isolation or combined, as we did, into a 7.5km (2 Hour) walk. Although there are some heritage markers along the way this is really just a combination coast/bush walk starting from the Scarborough beachfront so don't let the "Heritage Trail" put you off trying this lovely walk. We started from the carpark near Trigg Sur

Wanneroo Cultural and Civic Trail
This small but different heritage trail winds it's way through the old Wanneroo townsite. I suggest you download the brochure to show you where to look for the unique pavers and also to get the background to each marker. We followed the map but found it was much more efficient to read the brochure as it explained exactly what to look for and where to look for the markers. Other heritage trails have interpretive signs along the way which is handy but I found this trail uniqu

Bayswater Heritage Trail with Urban Art
We were actually searching for the new mural in Bayswater when we came across the Bayswater Heritage Trail brochure online so we decided to follow the heritage trail and see what we discovered in the way of urban art along the way. We parked at Bert Wright Park behind the Bayswater Community Centre where we discovered some beautiful mature trees, a nature playground designed for younger children, picnic and barbecue facilities and public toilets located on the outside of the

Coastal Walk Trail - North Mindarie to Quinns Beach
Starting from either the carpark on Rosslare Promenade in Mindarie or from the car park at Quinns Beach Surf Life Saving Club this path meanders along the coast for just over 1 km, taking about 15 minutes each way. Heading north you get lovely views over the water to Quinns Beach and heading south you get views down the coast to Mindarie Harbour. There are interpretive signs along the way... and you can keep the kids busy scanning QR codes or see if they can spot the osprey i

West Perth Heritage with the Bee Scene Trail
The Constitutional Centre, Parliament Place, West Perth West Perth has so many beautiful historic buildings it is well worth exploring. Even on Saturday the street parking is ticketed ($4 an hour - ouch!) but we found we could park along Kings Park Road on the Kings Park side for free. We crossed Kings Park Road and walked around Dumas House, discovering the lovely serene Japanese Hyogo Friendship Garden. From there we climbed the slope to walk around the beautiful Old Obs

Omeo Wreck - Coogee to South Beach with the old South Fremantle Power Station
After exploring the Urban Art in South Fremantle and on another occasion exploring from the Omeo Wreck south to Woodman Point I felt we had to close the gap and explore north from the Omeo Wreck to South Beach. Previously at the Omeo Wreck I noticed there was a Noongar Tourist Trail which went between Socrates Park and the Port Coogee Marina so this was our starting point. The Noongar Tourist Trail visits a number of parks which feature the glass Kidogo Artworks before movi

Elizabeth Quay - Gumap - Public Art Walk - Perth City
Noongar people camped at Gumap lighting fires (kaarla) at night on the riverbank. The men would catch fish (djidjit) amongst the rush beds and salt marshes and this site remains important to Noongar people today. Now known as Elizabeth Quay, Gumap has much to offer in the way of dining and entertainment options and is a wonderful place to wander around with family, friends or visitors. Within a short space there are 10 pieces of public art, some of which are very noticeable
